Thomas Dickerson, Jr.

August 26, 1946 — September 11, 2021

Alabaster

Thomas Charles Dickerson, Jr. (Tommy), age 75, of Alabaster passed away peacefully in the early hours of September 11, 2021, with his wife and brother at his side.

Born in Bayview Alabama in 1946, he was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Charles Dickerson, Sr. and Annie Earline Argo. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Angela Virginia Zito Dickerson; Sister, Barbara Joan Dickerson Hogan (Wayne); Brother, Randall Earl Dickerson (Janet); Brother-in-Law, Charles Felix Zito; Nephews, Charles Hogan (Lisa) and Lance Hogan (Tammy), and Daniel Dickerson (Becki); Nieces, Rebekah Roth and Christa Dickerson Longfellow (Josh); and Great-Niece, Calista Faye Longfellow.

He is also survived by a host of friends and members of UMWA Local 2397, of which he remained a member in his retirement.

Tommy faithfully served his country honorably in the Army Signal Corps as a Tech Sargent stationed in Germany. After his discharge, he continued that interest, and family tradition, as a 4th-generation coal mine electrician/ communications specialist. His love of the outdoors, boating, fishing, carpentry and sports cars was seen by all.

Family and friends will long remember his quiet demeanor, generosity, quick (and dry) wit. Local American and European sports car enthusiasts will miss his frequent presence at cruise-ins and car shows.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 10 - 11 am at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover.  Funeral service will follow at 11 am in the funeral home chapel with Hal Zimmerman officiating.  Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.

The Family would like to thank the team of Affinity Hospice for their wonderful support, compassion, and patience. Also, they especially want to thank Mark Anthony Sanders for his gentle caregiving and being like a family member.
