Stephan “Steve” Koroknay

December 22, 1948 — May 20, 2022

Stephan Allen Koroknay (“Steve”) of Hoover was received into the arms of our Lord on May 20, 2022. Diagnosed with Non-Hogkins Lymphoma in December 2019 , Steve bravely and courageously continued to live and enjoy life until he peacefully in his sleep was called home to be with his Savior. While we are so sorry to lose him we are at peace in the fact that he is now with our Lord and he is no longer suffering. He is now reunited with his Grandparents Nanna and Bill, Parents John and Maryalice (“Pete”) and other Aunts, Uncles and friends. He is survived by his wife Sara (“Sally”), his son, Brian (Amy), his daughter, Kristi Gartman (Mark) , his brother, John Koroknay (Barbara), in-laws Ginny Sanchez (Art), Janet LaRue and Herbert Algire. He also is survived by a host of cousins and their spouses, who are affectionately known as the “Out-Laws’ and many nieces and nephews.
He was born in Mansfield Ohio on December 22,1948. He grew up in the Mansfield area and graduated from Lexington High School in 1966. Steve was very active in scouting and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. In 1969 his family moved to Clearwater FL. Steve loved his family and always enjoyed the family get togethers especially when the Ohio family would come to visit. He always lived “ life to the fullest”, and would not miss an opportunity to travel or do something new. In 1971 he married Sally and they started a family in 1980. He actively participated in all of the activities with the kids.
In 1994 we moved to Birmingham because of Sally’s job. He remained active in scouting until Brian attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He worked at a variety of places prior to retiring in 2015. In his retirement he enjoyed working around the house and yard on various projects. He also enjoyed shooting, photography, traveling and collecting autographs.
Steve loved the Lord and all of his church family. Steve was definitely a people person and enjoyed talking to “everyone”. He never met a stranger. His friends and family have many memories of Steve and his antics. His laughter and smile were contagious. He is and will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends. But, we will see him again.
A limb has fallen from the family tree that says grieve not for me, remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I loved when I was strong
