Richard Charles Cooper of Pelham, Alabama passed peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, June 3, at UAB Hospital.

Born in Anniston, Richard graduated from Wellborn High School in 1972. Married to his high school sweetheart, Dianne on November 2, 1973. They were married 47 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Dewey Cooper, his brother Glen (Sonny) Waites, and his sister Sarah Nabors. He is survived by his wife Dianne, his daughter Stacey McCoy(Jason); and their two daughters Brook and Katherine . Brother Jody Cooper (Vicki); sisters Jackie McMurry and Bonnie Clark, and multiple nieces and nephews whom he cherished.

Richard worked in the grocery business pretty much his entire life. The majority of which he spent as a produce broker. He could be described as a somewhat part time mediocre golfer. He was everyone’s favorite story teller, a Christian man, a mentor to many, and great friend to anyone who met him. Richard lived his life selflessly devoted to his family in every way.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Oxforfd, AL. on Sunday, June 6th at 3:00PM Visitation will be from 2:30PM- 3:00PM

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s name to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation pulmonaryfibrosis.org
