Phyllis Bishop

Phyllis Schofield Bishop, 93, a longtime resident of Birmingham, Alabama, died on Thursday, December 12, 2019, in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Phyllis was born in Hiko, Nevada, to William Udall Schofield and Josephine Olive Bean on Augusts 31, 1926. She married Clarence Ethridge Bishop, Jr., April 21, 1946, in Riverside, California. She was a homemaker and mother and eventually had her own typesetting business and then became a co-owner of a print shop, LM&B, for several years. She was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in the Primary organization as President. She enjoyed visiting the ladies of her congregation each month as a visiting teacher and made small gifts for those she visited. She enjoyed working in her yard and kept it lovely.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Clara Moore; her six siblings, Pauline Millar, Josephine Stewart, Enid Stewart, William Udall Schofield, Alice Allen, Eleanor Lamb, and Virginia Boyce, and one half-sister, Sharlene Bush; daughter, Cynthia Argo; son, Clarence E. Bishop, III; and grandson, Walter Garrison Hopkins, IV.

Phyllis is survived by her two daughters, Rosemary Hopkins (Walter) and Jilleen Dolid (Peter); her son-in-law, Terry Argo; daughter-in-law, Towannah Bishop; half-sisters, Ila Claire Bishop, Patricia Jupiter (Clyde), Roberta Marcov (Allan); grandchildren, Melissa Hochrine (Chris), Cassandra Bustamante (Steve), Jennifer Argo, Joshua Argo (Barrett), Marie Weiss (James), Regina Bishop, and Tammy Bishop.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Friday, December 20, 2019, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in the Chapel, 2701 John Hawkins Pkwy, Hoover, AL 35244. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. Arrangements are by Norvel Owens Mortuary in Flagstaff, Arizona and Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Cancer Society in remembrance of her daughter, Cynthia Argo.

Pall Bearers will be: Nicholas Bentley, Dylan Weiss, James Weiss, Jason Powell, Zack Kellogg and Josh Argo. Honorary pall bearers will be: Terry Argo, Peter Dolid, and Water G. Hopkins III.
