Hoover

Margaret Allene Segrest, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2021.  Margaret was born in Montgomery, AL on August 22, 1945 to Allene Summerlin Segrest and John Rogers Segrest of Luverne, AL in Crenshaw County.  Margaret was raised in Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School where she was a cheerleader.  Margaret went on to further her education at Auburn University where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and one of the charter members of the War Eagle Girls.  Margaret received her masters in Family and Human Development from the University of Kentucky.  Margaret worked as a Social Worker in Frankfort, KY before moving to Destin, FL where she began her career as a Real Estate Agent.  Several years after marrying in 1994, Margaret and her husband, Frank, moved to Hoover, AL to be closer to family.  Margaret became a Real Estate Auction Agent with J. P. King Auction Company, traveling to Auction sites all over the country.  She held a Real Estate license in several states.  Margaret attended and was active at Riverchase Church of Christ in Hoover, AL.

Margaret was a fun loving, family oriented personality.  She loved to travel and visited many different countries, renting cars and driving the countryside.  She loved a good ocean cruise, as well as, Riverboat cruising.   She met people wherever she vacationed and made life long friends.  Margaret was a member of Versailles, KY ski club and held a pilot’s license for hot air ballooning.  She loved being with her ballooning friends in Kentucky.  Margaret had a love for the Kentucky Derby and celebrated Derby Day every year.  She introduced Churchill Downs and Mint Juleps to many of her family members and friends while living in Kentucky by planning a day of fun and unique opportunities on Derby Day.  Margaret was the perfect southern hostess and lady.

Margaret also shared her love of New Orleans and Mardi Gras with family and friends.  She loved Jazz music, Cajun food, New Orleans art and the atmosphere of the city.  Margaret’s late husband, Col. James Franklin Argabright, was a member of the Krewe of Janus and they shared their Krewe Ball opportunities with friends and family during Mardi Gras season.

Margaret’s love of family and friends was her strongest virtue.  She never met a stranger and everyone who met her fell in love with her beautiful smile and big brown eyes immediately.   She was kind, considerate, and caring.  Margaret never forgot to acknowledge a birthday or send a sympathy card and flowers to all she held close in her heart.  She was a true southern lady who loved all things Auburn.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Col. James Franklin Argabright,, beloved brother, John Rogers Segrest, II and sister-in-law, Carol Wagoner Segrest who was very dear to Margaret’s heart.   She is survived by her nephew John L. Segrest (Yvonne), nephew Dr. Alan Lee Segrest (Tami), and niece Mary Margaret Miller (James), many great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and an abundance of extended family and many, many dear and special friends.
