Lunell Rutherford

Lunell Purser Rutherford, 79, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at her home. She graduated from Leeds High School and worked part-time in Birmingham while raising her family. Lunell was a long-time member of Glen Iris Baptist Church and supported the church school and other ministries. She taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Lunell is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Bobby Gene Rutherford; parents, Lee Ernest Purser and Mertie Bell Estes Purser; sisters, Anna Eulene Anglin, Jewel Dean Falkner, and Mary Parson; and brothers, Billy Purser and Doug Purser.

She is survived by her two sons, Steven Lee Rutherford (Louisa) and Paul Wade Rutherford (Andrea); four grandchildren, Grant Rutherford, Mason Rutherford, Hollye Rutherford, and Heath Rutherford; brother, Johnny Purser (Darlene); sisters, Dorothy Tibbetts and Betty George (Joe); and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL. The funeral service will begin from the chapel at 2:00 pm with Pastor Chris Lamb officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens South.

The family is so thankful for the help from SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice nurses and staff; Dr. Jeff Rickert, Nurse Darlene Dowdy, Home Health Aide Cheri Hampton, Caregiver Lanette Govan, and Caregiver Sherry Spencer. Appreciation for all the love, prayers, and visits from Glen Iris Baptist Church friends, especially Pastor Chris and Kathi Lamb, and Brother Don and Jean Graham.
