Lloyd Stephen "Steve" Mahan

Lloyd Stephen (Steve) Mahan was born to Lloyd Leldon Mahan and Betty Louise Shelton on January 15, 1952 in Bessemer, Alabama. His sisters are Robin Mahan Vickers and Connie Mahan Scott. He attended Canaan Baptist Church in Bessemer, Alabama for many years while growing up and professed Jesus Christ as his Savior on September 25, 1966.

He graduated as the last graduation class of Bessemer High School in 1970. Later in life, he obtained an Associate Degree in Fire Science at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama. He had several jobs to include Long Lewis Ford, ACIPCO, and eventually retired with 33 years of dedicated and compassionate service as a paramedic/fire fighter with the City of Hueytown in Alabama.

In 1971, he was blessed with one beautiful, intelligent and loving daughter, Sima Mahan Atkinson, who preceded him in death in 2013. Her legacy is her darling children, Chase Christian Atkinson and Lacey Denise Atkinson. Steve cherished their times spent together being the proud "Grandpa Steve" and he loved them very much.  At age 28, he married a young lady from East Chicago, Indiana, Diana Bruno Mahan, and they shared 42 years of deeply devoted love to one another. He had a saying... "I tell you what"...and then he would tell you what he wanted to say.

He was an avid University of Alabama football fan, especially when Alabama won! Not so much if the team did not play to Steve's expectations. Steve was loving, funny, considerate, thoughtful, tenacious...all in on everything he did; however, his sister Robin was forced to wake up very early on Christmas mornings to be Steve's partner in crime as Steve snooped for gifts, and his sister Connie was awarded the position of gofer when Steve and his buddies would play basketball in the driveway at their home.

Throughout his life Steve loved cars, handling firearms, riding motorcycles in enduros and one time he rode "The Tail of the Dragon" in Tennessee, Civil War history, listening to audible books, listening to various music genres singing along and performing air instrumentation with musical "Oldies", having deep conversations of past times, controlling the TV remote, enjoying trips spent at his log cabin home in the Tennessee Mountains and loving his dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Bruno Mahan; sisters Robin Mahan Vickers (Mike) and Connie Mahan Scott (Keith); grandchildren Chase Christian Atkinson and Lacey Denise Atkinson; nieces Reagan Gibson-Vickers (Monica), Ashley Vickers Shaw (Andy) and Lidia Elizabeth Scott; nephews Alexander Bradley Scott and Samuel Alan Scott; great nieces Abigail Elizabeth Shaw and Addison Rose Shaw and lastly, Steve's Home Protector/Constant Companion dog, Baybee.

Celebration of Life will be conducted by Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, Alabama on July 28, 2022. Visitation begins at 1:00pm with the service at 2:00pm officiated by Buddy Gray, Pastor of Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover, Alabama. Committal will be in the Currie Jefferson Memorial Garden.
