Katherine “Katie” Wesley

November 3, 1979 — September 17, 2022

Katherine “Katie” Lynn Wesley passed away on Saturday, September 17th, 2022, at her home in Pelham, Alabama. She went to be with her Lord peacefully, surrounded by her family. Katie was 42 years old, and fought a tremendous 20-month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). To family, friends and to so many who followed her B+ Journey, Katie won this battle. She was courageous and always stayed positive. She considered other cancer patients she met as “family.” Through her devout faith and testimony, she gave hope, encouragement, drive, and most importantly, the will to never give up. She would always say, “God has this!”

She was born on November 3, 1979, in Cullman Alabama, and is survived by her mother, Linda Hinkle Wesley, father, Herbert T. Wesley, sisters, Karisa Wesley Dominguez (Oscar) and Kelly Wesley, aunt, Regina LaMaster (Turner), and uncle, Sam Hinkle(Terry), her best friend in life, Steve Reeves, as well as a multitude of friends and relatives.

Katie was raised on a farm in Cullman County, Alabama, and graduated from Fairview High School. She graduated from University of Alabama-Birmingham and worked in the service industry. She was a relationship builder and had an infectious smile and personality, which drew many people to her, and created life-long friendships.

Katie loved golf and had the privilege of attending a number of major tournaments, everything Roll Tide, spending time hiking, especially in Oak Mountain State Park, trips to the beach, sunsets, doing for others, and especially, her dog, Diezle. Katie’s biggest love, which she was not shy about sharing, was her love for God. Her faith never wavered; she lived by Joshua 1:9 daily and throughout her journey. When talking to Katie, you knew she was ready to be with the Lord, and as shared on her very last Facebook post, “Know God loves you all, I love you all.”

The family wants to thank the many doctors and medical professionals Katie met during her AML Journey. Dr. Sravanti Ranjaraju at UAB and her team, Dr. Ghayas Issa at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas, and his team, the nurses at UAB and MD Anderson, and so many we cannot begin to name. Katie particularly loved the lab techs who drew her blood so many times a week – they had such fun and many laughs – their kindness was very special. Lastly, her medical team from Comfort Care Hospice.

Katie spent seven months in Houston’s MD Anderson Center receiving treatments and a stem cell transplant. The family is so thankful to the many friends and family who provided support in so many ways: financially, emotionally, uplifting Katie with prayers, and the visits. A very special “thank you” to those who worked tirelessly on the “B+ Golf Tournament” benefiting Katie.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 25th at 4:30 p.m. at the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, located at 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, AL, 35244. Visitation will begin at 2:30.
