June Bruce

June Turner Bruce went to her Heavenly home on September 10, 2022. Born on July 24, 1937, in Birmingham, Alabama, she was the oldest daughter of James and Nell Turner and the sister of Wynelle Knight. She grew up in West End and was a member of Berney Points Baptist Church. In 1955, at the age of 17, she married Robert “Bob” Bruce. They eventually settled in the Huffman area and raised two children. She held secretarial positions in several different businesses and schools. June and Bob were Sunday school teachers for a married couples’ class at both South Roebuck Baptist Church and Huffman Baptist Church. In 1983, June and Bob opened an office supply store called Bruce Office Supply. They eventually moved to Hoover and joined Hunter Street Baptist Church, where they continued to teach Sunday school. Teaching was June’s calling and her spiritual gift; she had a passion for it. She was loved and admired by many in her classes, she loved them like they were family, and she continued to keep in touch with them even after she was no longer able to teach. Bob and June successfully ran their business until retirement in 2000. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling together and visiting new places in the U.S. and all over the world. June loved hosting dinner parties and was an excellent cook. June had many friends who loved her dearly and she always had time for each of them. She was loving to all who knew her and had a very giving nature. June leaves behind her two children, Scott (Tiffany) and Susan (David Little), and her six grandchildren, Brittany, Bri, Reed, Melissa, Christopher, and McKenna.

A special thank you to the staff in assisted living and skilled nursing at Galleria Woods, along with Affinity Hospice, who made her last years so much better. Visitation will be held at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL, on Monday, September 19, 2022, from 10-11 AM with the service immediately following. June loved the Billy and Franklin Graham Ministries and supported them with her prayers and donations. If you would like to donate to the ministry in memory of her, she would be honored.
