Hollis Dewey Hayes of Hoover passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at the age of 101. He was a long-time resident of Hoover, and a faithful member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, where he was an usher for almost 50 years.

Hollis was born in Texas but spent most of his growing-up years in Louisiana. After high school he served his country in Europe during World War II piloting a B-17. Hollis attended Louisiana Tech University, where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. There, he met Imogene Allen, and they married after graduation. He returned to active duty during the Korean War when he flew B-29s stateside.

Hollis had a 30-year career with Gulf Oil Corporation in Industrial Marketing, living in several different places throughout the south. Following his retirement from Gulf he was asked to join Saunders Leasing as Energy Chief. After three years with them, he went into real estate. Along the way he and Imogene raised four children, 2 sons and 2 daughters. Imogene passed away in 2019 after their marriage of 68 years.

Hollis loved Hoover and was a tireless volunteer for causes close to his heart. While he was able he enjoyed singing with the Hoover Songbirds Choral Group. He and Imogene were very involved in a number of interests, among them Hoover Horizons Senior Club, Friends of Hoover, and Aldridge Gardens. He always sought to get as many people as possible involved in making Hoover a better place to live.

Hollis is survived by 2 sons, Steve Hayes (Reba), and Roger Hayes; 2 daughters, Diane Hayes Davis (Steve) and Janet Hayes Logan (Danny); and a growing number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In this time of Covid-19 there will be a graveside service for immediate family members only. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Aldridge Gardens.
