Donald Pagan

November 25, 1931 — June 13, 2022

Hoover, Alabama

Donald Pagan, age 90, died peacefully, surrounded by family on June 13, 2022.

The son of Lawrence and Beatrice Pagan, Don was born on November 25, 1931 in San Francisco, California. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954, active during the Korean War. While in the Navy, stationed in Pensacola, Florida, he met and married the love of his life, Loretta Spicer.

Don was first and foremost a child of God and a grateful and active servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Don was a loving husband to Loretta and a devoted father to his four children – Angela, Donica, Phillip and Alicia. He was dedicated and creative in showing his love and care for them, with both surprises and long held traditions, that have now been passed on to his five grandchildren.

Don and his family lived in many places, including Pensacola and West Palm Beach, FL, New Orleans and Slidell, LA, and Birmingham, AL. Anytime they moved to a new location, the first thing they did was to choose a new church to worship and serve their Lord. He was an avid and talented musician. He played piano and other instruments, and led worship in many of the churches where he served. He was a Deacon and served in administrative roles as well. He was a beloved and effective teacher of God’s Word, touching the lives of hundreds. Many have commented on how Don and Loretta’s love and witness drew them in and changed their lives.

Early in life, Don developed a love of photography. He took countless photos of his family during their travels, celebrations and everyday life. During his early career, Don was a skilled and enthusiastic Photographic Engineer, working for the Navy, Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, and NASA. After surviving and recovering from an industrial accident in 1965, Don attended Florida Atlantic University and earned a degree in Accounting with his CPA credentials. He eventually started his own accounting firm and retired in 2009 after moving to Alabama.

Don is survived by his wife of 68 years, Loretta Spicer Pagan; his children, Angela Delahoussaye, Donica Lovelace and Alicia Baker; His sons-in-law, Stephan Lovelace, Ronnie Delahoussaye and Scott Baker; his grandchildren, Cory and Jenna Blair Lovelace, Bryan Delahoussaye, Daniel and Emma Baker Bruce, Braden and Sheri Merrell Baker, and Nate Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry Pagan, and his beloved son, Phillip.
