Vestavia Hills

Christopher Lynn Cuchens, 36, of Vestavia Hills, AL passed away on January 27, 2020. Chris was a gift of love from God right before Christmas after seven long years of waiting but was totally worth our wait. Chris was the only child before being blessed with the birth of his sister almost four years later. As such, we had thoroughly enjoyed spoiling Chris for 4 years and then enjoyed the same with Beth. We have continued to spoil all our children including the grandson Sully to this very day.

Chris graduated from Vestavia Hills high school as a member of the National Honor Society. Chris was honored to be selected by faculty as Mr. Vestavia based on his true character. Chris went on to college at Ole Miss for a while before finishing his degree from UAB. His ultimate allegiance was to Ole Miss and the town of Oxford MS where he had a house and resided for a number of years.

Chris was a scholar, athlete (football, wrestling, track, baseball), and handsome person by any measure but his true virtues were his love of life, genuine kindness, the love for friends and family, but his greatest virtue was the way his life exemplified Christianity. Chris meant a lot to so many which reflected his caring for others. Chris never met a stranger, and always sought ways to meet other’s needs, especially his family. Chris grew up surrounded by many friends who also cherished him as his family.

Football games were always followed by nights at the Cuchen’s house by numerous football players (with Will Leesburg as the ring leader) along with Saturday morning breakfast feast. No one ever left hungry or without a hug. The amount of friends that Chris had served as a testament to his loving kind heart, and his genuine personality. Chris was a leader in many ways which also included boy scouts and church.

Chris was unfortunately dealing with a mental health illness which was grossly misunderstood by all including those who loved him dearly. Our hope and prayer is for Chris’ legacy to bring awareness to people like himself who only want their illness to be understood, and to be loved and supported.

Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents; W. A. Cuchens Jr., and Wilma G. Cuchens along with Ellamae Inman and David Richard Inman.

Chris is survived by his mother & father Joyce & Jim Cuchens along with his sister, Beth Marlowe (Kevin) and nephew (Sully) and niece (Hannah-Rylee-due 04/20).
