Charles D. Russell, 78, of Birmingham, AL passed away on April 15, 2021. Born on February 23, 1943, Charles grew up in McCalla and went into the Navy for four years right after graduating high school. Upon returning home, he began a career with ACIPCO. He met his wife, Kay “Honey” Russell in 1966. Charles made a career move to UPS from where he worked until he retired. Charles was lovingly known as Chuck to his grandkids as well as his family, friends, and neighbors. His favorite things to do were spending time with his grandkids, playing his banjo, woodworking, and spending time with Honey.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse D. and Rebecca V. Russell; and sister, Patricia Russell.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kay R. Russell; son, Jason Russell (Tara); daughter, Jessica R. Vella (Joe); grandchildren, Reed and Caroline Vella and Jackson and Stella Russell; brother, Thomas Russell; and sister, Nancy Allen (Greg).

A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2021 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL. The graveside service will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
