Charles Sillavan

Charles Wayne Sillavan, 75, passed away on October 16, 2019 in Birmingham, Alabama.  Charlie was born in Jasper, Alabama to Louis Lesley Sillavan and Vera Idalene Bobo.  He grew up in Alabama and Florida, graduating from Southern College of Optometry in 1966.  He practiced optometry in the Air Force in Okinawa, Japan, then in Florida and Washington, D.C. where he met and married his wife Patricia Ann McGuire from Maryland.  They were married 47 years.

He left optometry to serve full-time with The Navigators in 1972.  He retired in 2017 after 45 years, serving the military 6 years, on the mission field in Africa 14 years, and international students in Birmingham 25 years.  He was privileged to have met and helped many people from many different places.

Charlie is preceded in death by both parents and his two sisters, Vonda Banks and Betty Barton.  He is survived by his wife, Pat Sillavan; daughter, Nancy Lynn Anderson (Jeffrey); and two grandsons, Michael Lee Anderson and David Arthur Anderson.

The family will receive friends from 1-2, Friday, October 25, 2019, at Briarwood Presbyterian Church in the foyer.  Funeral will follow at 2:00 in the chapel.  Interment will be at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, 2:00, Monday, October 28, 2019.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in his memory to American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc. or The Navigators.  The family wishes to thank Ashley and Jackie of A Season of Care and the staff of Oasis Hospice for their loving care.

The family is comforted and thankful for Charlie's love for the Lord Jesus Christ and that now he is rejoicing in His presence in eternity.
