She was also known for her love of animals, especially dogs of whom her favorite was snowball. She was preceded in death by her mother Emma Mae Gillman, brother Luther J Gillman, and the love of her life, her husband of 14 years, Charles I. Johnson, sisters Leatha Sims Buchmann, Francis Sims Williamson, and Edna Earl Sims Lancaster.
