Barbara Townsend

Barbara Monteith Townsend, 86, of Birmingham, passed away on May 20, 2020.

Barbara was born on October 20, 1934 and grew up in Birmingham, Alabama.  She attended Phillips High School, and was the loving wife to Don for 65 years.  For over thirty years she thoroughly enjoyed teaching two year olds at Saint Mark. Her greatest love was becoming “Honey” to her grandchildren and all those who love her.

Barbara is preceeded in death by her father, Samuel Edward Monteith and mother, Emma Fikes Monteith.

Left to cherish Barbara’s memory are her husband, Donald Townsend; daughter, Cathy Smith (Fred); grandchildren, Ashley Kirby(Nicholas) and Amie Smith; great grandchildren, Emma Kriby and Jennifer Kirby; brother, Andre Monteith (Sarah); and sister, Susie Luquire.

The family will receive friends at Saint Mark United Methodist Church on Monday, May 24, 2021, at 10:00AM, with funeral services to follow at 11:00AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Barbara’s memory.
