Obituary

Barbara Kennedy Ingram passed away peacefully at her home in Birmingham, Alabama on Tuesday, January 3rd, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on March 6th, 1951, in Arlington, VA, Barbara and her beloved older sister, Edith, got to travel the world with their military parents.  Their Father, Harold R. Kennedy, was an Army Colonel and Mother, Virginia Verd, was the daughter of John B. LaGarde of Anniston, AL. During her childhood years, she was an accomplished student, horseback rider, snow-skier, and markswoman. At the age of 12, she was the only female match winner (out of 75 participants) at the Carlisle Barracks Junior Rifle Club Championships.

Barbara graduated from nursing school at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1975 and moved to Anniston, Alabama to be closer to friends and family.  During these years as a home health care nurse, she spent significant time with her grandparents, John B. and Betty LaGarde at the family farm in Piedmont, Alabama. John B. and Barbara could often be found hunting quail together before retreating to the lodge for afternoon cocktails.  In due time, Barbara met Stanton B Ingram, Jr. They were married in May 1982, moved to Hickory, North Carolina where Stan was employed and had a daughter, Lily Marie, in May 1984.  In 1986, they moved to Birmingham, AL, where Stanton III was born.

While Barbara’s first love was her children, Barbara also enjoyed playing tennis, working in her garden, shooting guns, dogs, and football. When Stan III decided to attend the University of Alabama, she became a die-hard Tide fan.  In her later years, she served as an EMT, received her nursing recertification, always with the desire to help other people.  She never lost her love of travel, and she continued to see the world with her children and friends. was a lifetime member of the Alabama Wildlife Federation, Ducks Unlimited and the Anniston Museum of Natural History.

Barbara is preceded in death by her grandfather, John B. LaGarde, her parents, Ken & Virginia Kennedy.  She is survived by her sister, Edith Kennedy, her children, Lily Ingram (husband Keven), her son, Stanton B. Ingram III (wife Ali) and her granddaughter, Alice Kennedy Ingram.  She was well loved and will be missed by many, especially her children, Lily, and Stan. 

A Memorial service followed by a Celebration of Life reception will be held Friday, February 17th, starting at 11:30 AM at The Club in Birmingham, Alabama.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Founder’s Place Program, A Respite Ministry for Adults with Memory Loss at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church, 3736 Montrose Road, Birmingham, AL 35213 or the Anniston Museum of Natural History, P.O.
