Barbara Castleberry

August 6, 1928 — October 2, 2022

Barbara G. Castleberry, born on August 6, 1928, peacefully entered into Heaven on Sunday, October 2, 2022. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, S.W. (Woody) Castleberry, her parents George and Juliette Baxter, sister Anne Cox, and granddaughter Katelyn Castleberry.

Barbara was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and later moved to Birmingham where she met Woody while working together at Loveman’s Department Store. They married on December 28, 1949. They were “Storefront” members of Briarwood Presbyterian Church. She was an active member in her church, serving as a member of the Joyful Hearts Sunday School class, Grace Ladies, Sunday Morning Greeter, and enjoyed taking trips with the Trailblazers. She loved to spend time outdoors hiking, and lots of time with her family. She was a wonderful cook, who catered weddings and special luncheons within the church, but nothing brought her more joy than serving the Lord.

Barbara leaves behind a beautiful legacy and will be greatly missed by her children Karen Partridge (Biff) of Natchez, Mississippi; Stan Castleberry (Liz) of Jasper; and George Baxter Castleberry of Pell City. Grandchildren; James Morris (Kate); Bethany Ware (Justin); Brandon Castleberry (Josie); Shelby Castleberry; Steele and Bisland Partridge; and her 11 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held for Barbara on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 1:00pm at Briarwood Presbyterian Church Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to either Briarwood Presbyterian Church Global Missions, or Briarwood Presbyterian Church Revitalization Ministry.
