William King "Bill" Elmore, age 80, of Birmingham, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and his best friend of 65 years.
Born January 14, 1945, in Birmingham, Alabama, Bill was the son of Marvin Roy Elmore and Rebecca Christine Campbell Elmore. He attended Birmingham University School, Columbia Military Academy, and Shades Valley High School. He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the 117th Air National Guard.
For more than 60 years, Bill was the devoted owner and operator of Ousler Sandwich Company, a beloved Birmingham institution founded in 1915 and owned by the Elmore family since his mother purchased it in 1953.
Bill was married for 58 years to the love of his life, Rebecca Ann "Becky" Petersen Elmore. He was a proud and adoring father to daughters Rebecca LeAnn Elmore Wood (Chris) and Jennifer Marie Elmore, and son William Brian Elmore. He also had two grandsons, William Camren Wood and John Turner Wood, of whom he was exceedingly proud. He is also survived by a host of cherished nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dorothy Jayne Elmore Tuck.
A man of kindness, humor, and unmatched work ethic, Bill cherished family dinners around the table every night and weekends spent at the lake with those he loved most. He always had a joke or funny story ready and loved his family with all his heart. His presence brought light to every room, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 15th from 1pm until 2pm with a funeral service following at 2pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home.
