Thomas “Tom” Watson Scott Jr. was born in Newington, Georgia, to the late Betty Ruth Murphy Scott and the late Thomas Watson Scott Sr. He was raised in Hardeeville, South Carolina, where his strong values, work ethic, and love for adventure began to take shape. As the oldest sibling, Tom set the tone for a close-knit family that included Clyde Scott, the late Glenn Scott (Sue), Jimmy Scott (Gina), Teresa Hope (Jerry), Tillie Keiffer, and cousins Wayne and Tracy Murphy. He was preceded in death by his brother Glenn, his brother-in-law Charles Keiffer, and his daughter-in-law Melinda Scott.

Tom lived a life defined by purpose, leadership, faith, and deep devotion to family. In his early years, he worked as a disc jockey for WSGA and WBUG, a role that reflected his outgoing personality and love of connecting with people. In his early twenties, Tom earned his pilot’s license, beginning a lifelong passion for flying that never left him.

In 1976, Tom married the love of his life, Cindy. For 49 years, their marriage stood as a testimony to faithfulness, commitment, and love. Together they raised three wonderful children. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a joyful grandfather who cherished his role as “Papa.”

Tom’s professional life was marked by integrity and bold vision. He served as Director of Point South, opened Wings and Wheels, an antique aircraft automobile museum, worked as a business broker, and owned Orlando Plating Company for 17 years. In 1994, he founded Aerospace Defense Coatings of Georgia, which he led for 24 years until 2018. An entrepreneur at heart, Tom was never afraid to build something from the ground up and his reputation was one of excellence, honesty, and perseverance.

Tom’s faith guided not only his personal life, but also his public service. He was the first Florida State Director for the Christian Coalition and later served for 17 years on the Board of Directors for the Faith & Freedom Coalition, where he was passionate about standing for biblical values, religious liberty, and civic engagement.

In 2023, Tom and Cindy moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where he became a member of Church of the Highlands, Grandview Campus. There, he faithfully served on the usher team, welcoming others with the same warmth and generosity he showed throughout his life.

Tom found tremendous joy in his many blessings—spending time with his wife, being a Papa, flying, cooking and eating great food with extra gravy, wandering the aisles of Lowe’s or Home Depot, and tinkering on whatever project had captured his attention that day. Above all, he loved the Lord and his family, living his life fully with gratitude and generosity.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy Scott; his children, Tom Scott III, Jennifer Ferguson (Jason), and Mackenzie Scott (Jenna); and his treasured grandchildren, Kaitlin, Hudson, Silas, Scarlett, Watson, Lincoln, Adam, and Elizabeth.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Tom’s memory to The Shepherd Center, a rehabilitation hospital specializing in brain and spinal cord injuries. Donations can be made online here or by mail at 2020 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30309.

Tom’s life was a testimony of faith, love, and service. While he will be deeply missed, his family rejoices in the promise that he is now at peace in the presence of his Savior, hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
