Ruby Hobbs

Ruby Jewel Hobbs, of McCalla, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at the age of 100. She was born at Fayette, AL, daughter of Henry Pinkney Hobbs and Martha Rainey Hobbs. She graduated from Fayette High School, then attended Massey Business School and after graduation she started working for the Alabama Power Company in Birmingham. She was a secretary for the Alabama Power Company until she retired. After she retired she enjoyed traveling. She visited all over Europe. Some of her favorite places were Switzerland, Russia, Ireland, Alaska, and Canada. She enjoyed doing needlework, some art work and walking for exercise. She attended Oak Grove Methodist Church in Fayette, AL, McCoy Methodist and First Methodist Churches in Birmingham, AL. When she moved to the independent living retirement apartment in McCalla, AL, she attended Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Bessemer, AL, and was a member of the Nellie Yingling Sunday School Class. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Loal Hobbs, E. J. Hobbs and Henry Pinkney Hobbs, Jr.; sisters, Theo M. Hobbs and Orlene Hobbs Carroll; brother-in-law, J. C. Carroll; and sisters-in-law, Helen C. Hobbs and Marie R. Hobbs.

Ruby is survived by her sister, Ema Dell McMahon (Andrew); sister-in-law, Irene W. Hobbs; niece, Deborah Ann Carroll; step niece, Linda T. Page; and two great-nephews, Matthew and Eric Lewis.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, from 10-11 AM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL. The service will follow in the Chapel with Pastor Alan Head officiating. Interment will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 4809 Bell Hill Rd, Bessemer, AL 35022, or a charity of your choice.
