Roy Steven "Steve" Skelton, age 67, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly on June 8, 2026. While his sudden passing has left a tremendous void in the hearts of those who loved him, his legacy of faith, kindness, laughter, and generosity will live on forever.
Steve was a devoted husband, father, son, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Debra Skelton; his daughter, Sarah Skelton; his son, Chris Guess; his daughter-in-law, Apple Guess; his granddaughter, Earn Elle; and his mother, Madie Skelton. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Clifford Skelton, and his son, Jared Guess.
Steve built a successful career as an independent health insurance broker and was widely respected for his knowledge, integrity, and genuine care for others. He was known for going above and beyond to help his clients, many of whom became lifelong friends. His customers trusted him because they knew he always had their best interests at heart.
Above all else, Steve loved the Lord. A longtime member of Church of the Highlands, his faith guided the way he lived his life and the way he treated others. He believed in helping people, showing kindness, and sharing God's love through his actions every day.
Steve had a gift for making people laugh. His quick wit, sense of humor, and perfectly timed jokes could brighten any room. Whether spending time with family, helping a friend, or meeting someone new, he had a way of making people feel welcome and cared for.
He was a passionate Auburn football fan who never missed a game and proudly supported the Tigers through every season. When he wasn't cheering on Auburn, he could often be found working in his yard. Steve loved planting flowers, and his yard was a reflection of the care, pride, and dedication he put into everything he did.
Those who knew Steve knew they could always count on him. He would gladly give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. His caring heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family made him a blessing to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Though his family mourns the loss of a remarkable man, they find comfort in knowing that Steve is now at peace in the presence of the Lord he loved so dearly.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, Alabama.
