Richard "Dick" Baumgarten
September 11, 1925 - October 8, 2025
Richard Baumgarten passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He was a wonderful friend to so many. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he met his wife Betty and they had two daughters, Lynn and Lee. The family moved to Birmingham in 1968. He was a WWII Veteran. In 1943 he joined the Navy where he turned 18 in Boot Camp. He served as a Radioman on a destroyer and a reconnaissance ship in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. He worked as a cost accountant for Rust Engineering for 37 years, retiring in 1988. After retiring he and Betty enjoyed traveling here and abroad. He was always active in his church, neighborhood and other organizations where he made lifelong friends. Dick is survived by his daughters Lynn Hulberg and Lee Segrest (Chuck), four grandchildren, Lisa Gambrell, Paul Grambell (Michell), Michael Segrest (Destiny), Greg Segrest (Melissa), several great grandchildren, his brother, Donald Baumgarten, four nieces and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, Charles and Christine Baumgarten. Dick was known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. We are so thankful for the 100 years he was on this earth and after a life well-lived he rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in his memory to Oakmont Chapel Presbyterian or Christ the King Lutheran Church, Hoover, AL.
