Rebecca Galdo

March 30, 1952 — January 26, 2023

Hoover, AL

Rebecca Jane Galdo (nee Williams) of Hoover, AL, age 70, peacefully ended her struggle with Alzheimer’s on January 26, 2023 after an infection with COVID-19. Becky was born on March 30, 1952 in Amherst, OH to John “Jake” and Genevieve “Genne” (nee Sennett) Williams.

Early in life, Becky found herself to be the life of any party, devoted to family, and always making others happy. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from The Ohio University in 1975 and worked raising a family, book publishing, and eventually as a paraprofessional in Special Education in Marietta, GA.

On October 8, 1983, she married her best friend, Gus, at St Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, OH. They raised two sons Gus (Connie) Galdo and John “Jake” (Jessica) Galdo, and two grandchildren, Sofie Galdo and Catalina Galdo.

Becky was an amazing person. She enjoyed parties, particularly Mardi Gras, chips and dip, travel, and her family. Becky was so creative – she often found ways to cross stitch, paint, and sew various tchotchkes. She even roped Gus and Jake into these efforts before they started kindergarten. And don’t forget the baskets or pigs.

The last few years, as Becky struggled with Alzheimer’s, her husband, Gus, son, Jake, and daughter-in-law, Jessica, created a warm loving environment for her in Alabama. Becky got to sing-along to the Beatles with Jake at all hours in the car, enjoy the sunset and drinks on the water with Gus, direct Jessica’s gardening efforts, and care for her pets Gwen, Nevada, Henry, and Auri.

Becky will be deeply missed by her; husband, sons, granddaughters, sister Beth (Don) Zaworski, sister Martha Williams, brother John Williams, brother Paul (Angela) Williams, and many other family and friends.

Becky was proceeded in death by her parents and her parents-in-law.

The family is celebrating Becky in a private event on January 29th, 2023. Further celebrations will occur in Atlanta and Amherst in March. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations be made to the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Cherry Hill Nursing Facility in Alabama and the team at New Beacon Hospice for their compassionate care.
