Peggy Ruth Heard Shores was born at home in the Inglenook neighborhood of Birmingham, AL on October 5, 1933. She graduated from Phillips High School in 1951. Her career began at State Farm Insurance Company during which time she joined the Beta Sigma Phi sorority where she made life-long friends. In 1951 she married John Wesley Shores, Jr. and became a homemaker as their family was started. In 1967 she began studies at Jeff State Jr. College and then UAB where undergraduate and master's degrees in education were earned. She taught 5th grade at Locust Fork Elementary School in Blount County for 25 years and then retired. A life-long member of the United Methodist Church, she held her membership at Asbury United Methodist. Peggy was a very faithful and resilient person with a strong determination to do things right. She loved her children, son and daughter-in-law, and grandchildren dearly. She will be missed every day, but her strength will remain for all of the lives she touched. Peggy Shores is preceded in death by her loving husband John Wesley Shores Jr., her father Ezra E. Heard, and her mother Gertrude Hardegree Heard. She is survived by her son and daughter Susan Parkerson (Ed) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Wes Shores (Karol) of Athens, Alabama, and grandchildren Bailey Parkerson (Ashlan), John David Parkerson, Savannah Shores Hall (Christian), and Sam Shores.
