Hoover, Alabama

Peggy Mae Sanders Jones quietly passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, and went to meet her Savior. She joined her beloved husband Malcolm and two daughters, Elizabeth Jones and Martha (Marti) Jones White who proceeded her in death. Additionally, she was proceeded in death by her father and mother, Charles Edward and Lila Chaney Sanders and her five brothers Charles (Bud), James, John, Thomas (Bergin), and Robert.

She is survived by her sister Sue Sanders Jones (Carl) and daughters Rebekah Jennings (Bill), Rachel Turner (Tim) and Ruth Laurent (Mark), nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. We also wish to honor our “sister/cousin” Ann Deline Williams who dearly loved our mom and was loved by her. We extend a special thank you to her caregivers who served her tenderly – Trudy Hampton, Carolyn Harris and Angelica Pearce. We also want to mention the excellent care given to our mother from Southern Care New Beacon Hospice. All these wonderful people truly made this journey an easier and more meaningful experience.

Peggy Mae was born in Marshall, NC on February 3rd, 1930, to Charles Edward and Lila Chaney Sanders. Mr. Sanders was a railroad man with the Southern Railway. Her mother was a homemaker. Peggy met Malcolm in Iuka, MS. They married on January 1, 1948, after a New Years Watch Night event at their church.

Peggy was a faithful pastor's wife and a true steel magnolia. She epitomized mercy, wisdom and grace. She spent her life raising five daughters, actively engaged in and supported her husband's ministries, and nurtured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with much joy and honor. She encountered great triumphs and endured great tragedies with humility and grace. Peggy’s impact on this world and her beautiful countenance will be long remembered by all who were privileged to know her.
