Patti Lynn Brake

Patti Lynn Brake, 66, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on May 20, 2026.

Patti was a strong-willed woman with a bold personality who never hesitated to speak her mind. She was known for her tough-love nature, sharp wit, and gift for conversation. Patti never met a stranger and could talk to just about anyone willing to listen. She was someone who spent much of her time listening to theology podcasts, reading her Bible, and thinking deeply about faith and life. She enjoyed long drives with music playing, porch conversations that could last for hours, and talking with just about anyone she met. Whether through stories, opinions, laughter, or honest conversation, she left an impression on the people around her. She was rarely far from a glass of Milo’s tea and a good time.

While Patti could be stubborn and outspoken, those closest to her knew she cared deeply in her own way. She especially loved her grandchildren — those who called her Gammy — and made sure they knew they were important to her.

Patti is survived by her three children, Brooke Powers (Larry), Sean Cabe, and Hunter Brake; her siblings, Chuck Riley (Renee) and Carla Guzinsky (Dave); and her grandchildren, Erika Powers, Logan, and Skarlette.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles P. Riley Sr. and Gwendolyn Riley; her aunt, Jimmie; and her husband, John.

Patti will be remembered for her strong spirit, unforgettable personality, and the many stories and conversations shared with those who knew her. Each relationship she carried throughout her life looked a little different, but the love, memories, laughter, and moments they shared with her will stay with them forever.
