Patricia Mary Johnston (nee Malone), beloved Wife, Mother, Mother-in-Law, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother, passed away on July 14, 2026. She was born on October 7, 1932, in Freeport, Illinois. She is survived by her brother Thomas Malone; son Kenneth Johnston, daughter Meg (Johnston) McCarthy; son-in-law Kevin McCarthy, daughters-in-law Maura Johnston, Lori Johnston, and Linda Johnston; grandsons Patrick McCarthy and Sean McCarthy; granddaughters Keegan Grace McCarthy and Leah Johnston; granddaughter-in-law Mindy McCarthy; great-granddaughters Alanna McCarthy and McKenna McCarthy. She is preceded in death by husband Thomas Johnston, brother Charles Malone and by sons Michael Johnston and Mark Johnston.
Patricia earned a B.S. degree in Medical Technology from the College of St. Teresa in Minnesota and, throughout her life, worked for many institutions. Hospitals in the beginning, then Vassar College and then as an optometry specialist. Patricia even built an extraordinary Welcome Wagon business. She was involved in the communities and Catholic Churches where ever she lived and proudly helped create a grief support group at her parish in Sanford, NC.
Her favorite role was as Wife and Mom to her four children, raising them in Indiana, Illinois and New York. She loved to play bridge, nurture her home gardens, quilt and take frequent trips to the beach. Her devotion to family and faith will be long-remembered.

A celebration of life will be held on October 10th, 2026 at 11 am, with a visitation starting at 10:30 am at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover, Alabama.
