Mildred Perry Lunsford

October 10, 1942 — April 27, 2026

Mildred "Millie" Jean Lunsford, 83, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, surrounded by her family whom she dearly loved and who dearly loved her. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother with a gentle and kind heart. Millie was born in McDonough, Georgia to George and Emma Grace Perry where she spent her early years. She was one of five children and deeply loved her brothers, David and Robert, and her sisters, Betty and Sue. After graduating high school, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she became employed with Avon. While in Atlanta, she met Robert "Bob" Lunsford and they immediately fell in love. Millie and Bob married, started a family, and moved to Vestavia Hills, Alabama where they raised three wonderful children: Mark, Mike, and Cindy. Millie and Bob enjoyed a long and rich marriage of 64 years where there was never a dull moment and there was always love. Millie was an expert dress maker and perfected the art of making English smocked dresses and did so for over 30 years. She taught classes and had a thriving business as an expert dress maker and seamstress. She was an exceptional cook whose signature recipes were unique as she was and can never truly be duplicated. While she was an expert dress maker and cook, her lasting legacy is the love and compassion that she gave to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, and going to the casinos in Mississippi where she could spend the day and not lose a penny. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and she was a living example of love, loyalty, and trust. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Emma Perry; her brother Robert Perry; her sisters, Betty Merrit and Sue Johnson; and, most importantly, her son, Mark Lunsford. She is survived by her loving husband Robert "Bob" Lunsford, who cared for, adored and loved her until the very end; her son Mike Lunsford (Kallie), her daughter Cindy Lackey (Mike), and her grandchildren whom she cherished: Helen Lunsford, Tyler Lunsford,

Dylan Lunsford, Sophie Lackey, Michael Lackey, Ellie Lackey, and Emma Belle Lackey; and brother David Perry (Charlene) of Atlanta, Georgia. Millie was admired, deeply loved, and made the world a better place. She will be missed by her family and friends. She will however be welcomed into the kingdom of heaven by her son and others that made the journey before her. She is at home and, when the day comes when her family and friends are called home, she will be waiting with open arms, a loving smile, and the best banana pudding ever made.
