Michael Wonestal Turquitt "Pops" passed peacefully on March 27, 2026, in his home in Bessemer surrounded by his family at the age of 90.
Born March 21, 1936 in Jefferson County to Ted Turquitt and Lulu Gilletine. He graduated from the 8th grade in 1953 at Bluff Park Grade School. He enlisted in the army, and was a vet of the Korean war. He was Honorably Discharged in 1957 at the rank of Private first class. He worked on oil pipelines before starting his business Turquitt Masonry. His work can be seen across Birmingham and over the mountain, but perhaps most notably in the home he build for his family. He loved plants and animals of all kinds. He was a faithful Christian with an inquisitive mind.
He was preceded in death by both wives Joann and Catherine; Brothers Paul, Osby, Jim, Eddy; Sisters Doris, Olga, Patricia; Son Mike; Grandsons Michael and Hunter.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimily; her two children, Kily and Kala; and four great grandchildren.
In keeping with his wishes, Michael will be buried at Currie-Jefferson Memorial Home after a close casket graveside service at 1:00 pm on April 2 with the service being officiated by his grandson.
