Michael "Mike" Lowell Duty, age 78 of Hoover, AL passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025 surrounded by family and friends.
Mike was born June 1, 1947 to Lowell and Louise Duty in Little Rock, AR. He moved to Athens, AL when he was in the 9th grade and graduated from Tanner High School in 1965. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy where he worked on the minesweeper during Vietnam. He later married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Linda Lauderdale Duty on February 15, 1969. He and Linda moved to the Birmingham, AL area in 1986, and Mike owned "280 Trailer Sales" for over 20 years. He was an avid hunter and sports fanatic, and one of his greatest joys in life was both coaching and watching his son Jonathan play sports. Mike loved spending time with his family, fixing virtually anything, and letting his 3 grandchildren rule the house. In Pops' eyes, his 3 grandkids could do zero wrong, and he would spend countless hours with them pranking Noni and fabricating wild stories.
He is preceded in death by his father Lowell Duty, mother Louise Dorsey Duty, father-in-law Richard Paizley "RP" Lauderdale, mother-in-law Ollie Belle Lauderdale, and brothers-in-law Jerry Gatlin and David Lauderdale. He is survived by his loving wife Linda Duty, son Jonathan Duty (Mandy), grandchildren Max, Jackson, and Alexa Duty, sisters-in-law Betty Gatlin and Rhonda Lauderdale, brother-in-law Larry Lauderdale (Ruth), nieces and nephews Kathy Coffey (Greg), Kristy Knight (John), Biranda Lauderdale, and Blake Lauderdale, great-niece Paizley Peebles (Zachary), great-nephew Tyde Coffey, and great-great niece Violet Peebles.
An intimate graveside service with military honors will be held at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL on Thursday, July 10 at 2:00pm. At Mike's request, no viewing will occur prior to his service, and his family will host a Celebration of Life reception at the Indian Springs Town Hall located at 2635 Cahaba Valley Rd Indian Springs, AL 35124 from 4:00pm-7:00pm.
