Mayo Cox Casey

Mayo Cox Casey, age 84 of Hoover, AL passed away peacefully on December 18th, 2023 at Grandview Medical Center, surrounded by people who loved her. She was born in Jefferson County, Alabama on July 13th, 1939, the daughter of the late James E. Cox, Sr. and the late Orpha Cain Cox.

Mayo completed her schooling at Shades Valley High School and began working at Lawyers Title Insurance Company in 1957. She spent the next 30 years of her career with the company. Mayo enjoyed spending time with family, especially on Fridays, when she could be found eating lunch, playing bingo and enjoying lots of laughter and fun.

Mayo was a woman of faith, and for the past eight years, she has been part of the community at Shades Mountain Baptist Church.

Mayo is survived by: her loving husband of 8 years, James Casey; Son, Michael Crain (Sarah); granddaughter, Cathy Crain-Dwyer (Luke); Grandson, Gregory Crain; Great Granddaughter, Lauren; Brother, Charles Cox, Sr. (Donna, dec.); Sisters, Daisy Pilkington (Ron); Lilly Phillips (Jim, dec.); Jean Collum (Jack, dec.), and two stepdaughters; Jan Hubbard (Stanley); and Julie Toner (Carl) and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.

Mayo was predeceased by her parents, James E. Cox Sr. and Orpha Cain Cox; Brothers, James E. Cox, Jr. and Franklin D. Cox; Sisters, Evelyn Jones, Myrtle Morgan, Gracie Cox, Dorcas Partridge and Stella Townley.

Pallbearers will be Carl Toner, Stan Hubbard, Jake Hubbard, Wesley Toner, Connor Maggio and Ron Pilkington.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 22, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 am, followed with a funeral service at 11:00 am at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens with a graveside service to follow.
