Mary Jo Monti passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, after a long illness. She was 94 years of age. Jo was born on March 6, 1932 and grew up in Cullman and Birmingham. She worked as a secretary at EBSCO, Mutual of Omaha, Macmillan School Supplies, and Brookwood Village, retiring in the mid-1980s. She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James Monti, in 2015. She is survived by three sons, Michael, Patrick, and Stephen; her daughter-in-law Cindy Monti; granddaughters Katie Monti and Brooke Walton; brother-in-law John Monti; sister-in-law Emily Hooks; and five nieces and nephews. Jo was a lifelong animal lover, especially of dogs, and was an avid professional tennis fan. For many years, she enjoyed daily walks at Aldridge Gardens in Hoover with her husband. She was a faithful member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover for almost 60 years. Visitation will be at St. Peter's (2061 Patton Chapel Road) at 10:30 on Friday, September 25, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30. A reception will follow the service.
