Marceline Griffin Wilkinson, age 97, of Pelham, Alabama passed away on March 19, 2026. She was born in Black, Alabama on September 21, 1928. She grew up in Slocum, Alabama and Jacksonville, Florida where she graduated from high school. She moved to Tallahassee, Florida where she attended business school.

Marceline and Jack married on May 23, 1949, and were married for almost 73 years. Survivors include their two daughters, MarcieAnn Wilkinson Rawls (Bill), Marian Wilkinson Carter (Dan) as well as four grandsons and one great-grandson: Jeremy Carter (Meredith), Ryan Carter, Michael Rawls, Dustin Rawls and Silas Carter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jackson Wilkinson, her father William Alvie Griffin, her mother Annie Dell Griffin, sister Ernestine Griffin Little and brothers Waylon Donald Griffin, William Alvie Griffin, Jr. and Sydney Paul Griffin.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pelham, Alabama. She and Jack sponsored children in the Upward children’s basketball ministry and loved their Sunday School class. Her prior church ministry included working in the nursery, Vacation Bible School and Women’s Ministries.

As a child, she enjoyed hopscotch and skating at the local skating rink. One thing she disliked as a child was picking cotton. She always complained of a stomachache to get out of this task. As an adult, she was a great cook and seamstress. She loved preparing Thanksgiving meals and Sunday dinner. She also loved hosting multiple Church Youth swim parties at their house. She enjoyed sewing dresses for her daughters, especially long maxi dresses during the 70’s.

Marceline’s first job was wrapping gifts at Woolworths in Jacksonville. After Business School, she worked as an auditor at Sears in Tallahassee, Florida. In Miami, she sold World Book Encyclopedias and earned an entire set for her family. She also had a job where she took inventory of candles at a department store. She always came home smelling like candles. Later in life, she would be the Bookkeeper and Payroll Specialist for the bus company that she and Jack owned in Ft. Myers, FL.

The family will receive friends on March 25, 2026, from 1:00-2:00 at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home with service to follow in the Chapel. Dr. Randy Atkinson will officiate, and the soloist is Steve Poe. Pallbearers are as follows: Bill Rawls, Dan Carter, Jeremy Carter, Meredith Carter, and other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Upward Basketball Ministry at the First Baptist Church of Pelham, 2867 Pelham Parkway, Pelham, AL, 35124.
