Madlynn Butler Morgan, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and woman of steadfast faith, passed away on September 25, 2025, after courageously battling a rare blood cancer for the past two years. She was born on November 26, 1954, in Mobile, Alabama, to Elizabeth Butler and Bill Butler, who preceded her in death.
Madlynn is survived by her loving husband of almost 54 years, Larry Charles Morgan; her two sons, Stephen Howard Morgan (Heidi) and Jarrod Heath Morgan (Amanda); and her cherished grandchildren who knew her as “Mimi”: MaKenzie Walley (Matt), Laurel Hutto, Payton Morgan, Griffin Hutto, Madeline Morgan, Elizabeth Morgan, and Charlotte Morgan. She was also blessed to know the joy of a great-grandson, Morgan James Walley. She is also survived by her sister, Stephanie Lutze (John) of Sydney, Australia, and their four children.
A woman of strong faith, Madlynn lived a life marked by love and service. She was the heart of the Morgan family and the steady caretaker, always putting the needs of her loved ones first. She found joy in the simple rhythms of life: long days at Pensacola Beach, cooking meals that became family traditions, passing down treasured recipes to her granddaughters, and nurturing the home as a place of comfort and belonging. She was a Master Gardener who delighted in creating beauty in the soil and sharing her love for nature with others. She was often side by side with her husband, Larry, cruising in their beloved 1967 Camaro and attending car shows together, a reflection of the joy and partnership they shared throughout their half century of marriage.
Above all, she was deeply proud of her sons, Stephen and Jarrod. She never missed a chance to tell others about the men they had become, devoted husbands, loving fathers, accomplished businessmen, and men who loved the Lord. Her pride in them was unwavering, and she carried it with her in every conversation.
The lessons Madlynn taught her family will echo for generations to come. She passed on everyday skills like cooking, humor, and hospitality, but more importantly, she showed her family how to love one another and how to love God. Though she is no longer with us, her impact will continue to shape lives for years to come.
Funeral services will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Friday, October 10, at 3:00 p.m., officiated by Father John Fallon, with a reception at the church to follow. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center for the compassionate care that gave them precious additional time with her.
Memorial Contributions In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Food for the Journey, a project dear to Madlynn’s heart that provides meals to the homeless in our community. Contributions may be sent via Venmo to @POPCatholicHoover or by check mailed to Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 4600 Preserve Parkway, Hoover, AL 35226.
