Lytle Hyde spent most of his life in service to others. Born in Nauvoo, Alabama, he joined the Army as a young man and credited it with teaching him focus and discipline. He remained close to his family, caring for his parents and brother when they were ill and visiting his remaining brother and sisters regularly over many years. After a varied career that included selling insurance and building cars, he became a claims representative for the Social Security Administration, where he served for decades before retiring. It was there that he met Sandra and quickly knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. They married on December 30, 1960, and soon added two sons and a daughter to their family. He worked constantly to be a good husband and father. He built the house where they raised their children, grew enough vegetables to feed family and friends, and attended every ball game, band concert, and school assembly.
Lytle was a Christian who put his faith in Jesus Christ. He was an active member of Riverchase United Methodist Church for many years, volunteering and attending until physical limitations prevented him from being there in person. He will be remembered for the beautiful life he led, with deep respect and enduring love.
