Joseph Leslie Nall Jr, 96, a longtime resident of Mountain Brook passed away on Friday June 23, 2023 with family by his side. Joe was born February 28, 1927 to Joseph Leslie Nall and Vita McClure Nall. He grew up on a farm in South Alabama. He attended Georgiana High School, but at 17 years old left for North Carolina State to attend a special training program through the Army. At 18 years old, after a year of attending North Carolina State and University of West Virginia, he left for infantry school. After he completed training, he was transferred to Radar school where he later became an instructor. 
After being released from the Army, he entered Auburn University’s School of Engineering. In 1949, he graduated with honors and an Army Reserve Commission. While at Auburn, he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau social Fraternity, Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi honorary Engineering Fraternities. He married the love of his life, Elise Harris, in 1950 after settling in Birmingham. He was called back in the Army soon after. He was sent to Korea to fight in the 7th Infantry Division in 1951. He was awarded the Commendation Medal for his service as Company Commander. He returned home from Korea on Christmas Eve 1952. In early 1953, he went to work with Rust Engineering as an Electrical Engineer and was later promoted to department head. A few years later, he left Rust to head the Electrical Department of a large Architectural Company before leaving to start his own company with two friends. They formed Cone, Hazzard and Nall Consulting Engineers. While working as an electrical engineer he specialized in Industrial projects. He did work in 28 states and 4 other countries during his career. He sold the company in 1997 and retired. 
The most important part of life was his family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. One of his favorite past times was coaching baseball and serving as Commissioner of Mountain Brook Baseball in 1974.
He was a long time member of Canterbury United Methodist Church.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Elise, brother, John D. Nall, sister, Mary Frances Nall Harrison and sister, Annette Nall McDonald.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Nall Waldheim, son, Joey Nall (Renee).
His six grandchildren, Kyle Waldheim, Lindsey Waldheim, Alainie Cotton (Micah), Alissa Nall, Anthony Deleonard and Stephanie DeLeonard.
And two great grandchildren, Emersynn Cotton and Rylee Cotton.
The family would like to thank long time caregivers Doretha Harris, Adrienne Maniece, Ben Collins and the staff at St. Martins for all their care and compassion they showed Joe. 

The Family will receive friends Wednesday June 28, 2023 from 1-2PM at Currie Jefferson Funeral Home. The funeral services will be at 2PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Canterbury United Methodist Outreach of the Birmingham Human Society.
