Joseph Lynn

Joseph Daniel "Dan" Lynn-a loving husband, proud father, adoring grandfather, and loyal friend-left this world on Friday, October 24, 2025. His story continues through the people he loved most: his wife of 48 years, Carla; his sons, Joseph (Paul) and Robert (Jeff)rey; his daughters-in-law, Rachael Dabbs and Melissa Cook; and the grandchildren who brought him endless joy-Joseph Paul Jr. (JP), Jacob Daniel, Addison Elizabeth, Parker Dane, Abigail Marie, and Hudson Daniel.

Dan grew up in the Bush Hills neighborhood of Birmingham, where he first learned the values that would shape his life. He became an Eagle Scout, served as an altar boy at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and built friendships and memories that stayed with him always. He graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School in 1962 and continued his education at Birmingham-Southern College and the University of Alabama, proudly joining the Theta Chi fraternity along the way.

After completing graduate school, Dan began his career at UAB in 1968-what he thought would be his first job turned into his life's work. For 53 years, he dedicated his talent, his mind, and his heart to the UAB community. Those who worked with him knew a man of remarkable intelligence and unwavering principles, one who never needed many words to make a lasting impact.

Above all else, Dan loved his family. He showed that love in quiet but steady ways-through his guidance, his humor, his gentle strength, and his constant presence. His family was his greatest pride, and his legacy of love and character will continue in each of them.

Dan will be deeply missed by everyone blessed to have known him. His life was a gift, and his memory will remain a source of comfort, inspiration, and gratitude.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Dan's life will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Thursday, November 13. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:50 a.m., with the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow, where family and friends can gather to share stories, laughter, and love in his honor.
