John William Smith, passed away Wednesday April 6, 2022, at the age of 88, He was proceeded in death by his parents, Lester Smith and Clara Ryan (Smith) Emond, Daughter Angie Ruddick, brother Vancil Smith, and Sister Christine Smith. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Madge smith, daughter Susan (Wayne) Hill) and Grandchildren Jordan Pelkey, Nick Hill, Rachel Hill, and DJ Rudick. John was also survived by niece and nephew Lisa Powell, and Scott Smith. John was born in Henegar Alabama while being raised in Henegar and Birmingham. John attended Phillips high school and the University of Alabama. John also was drafted and proudly served in the us Army as a radio operator. John had an exuberant passion for art and photography, he was a brilliant local artist of watercolor as well as oil paintings. John won many awards including best of show and first place in oil landscapes. During the years he painted, he sold over 400 hundred paintings, while he painted, he enjoyed listing to classical music and operatic music while boasting a vast collection of each. John was an armature photographer while travelling extensively through the United States and Europe with his wife and daughters. His passion for traveling and photography later formed his inspiration to paint the memories of the places he had been. He worked for 30 years as an accountant for Union Envelope, a division of international paper, where he also unexpectedly worked with and met Madge, the love of his life.
