John Lawrence Bass “Bosco”, 76, of Cahaba Heights, Alabama, passed away on September 26, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. John was a graduate of Lyman Ward Military Academy and enjoyed a long career with Ventura Foods, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service.
John was a devoted Alabama fan who rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Crimson Tide. Yet, his proudest role was being “Paw Paw” to his five grandchildren, who will always cherish the memories of him cheering at their ballgames, gathering for family celebrations, and sharing time around the table. He will be remembered for his sharp sense of humor, resilient spirit, strong work ethic, and steadfast devotion to his family. A man guided by his faith, John was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. His legacy of love, laughter, and faith will continue to shine in the lives of all who knew him. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors who cared for him over the years; especially Dr. John Piede and Dr. Duane Shroyer. We would also like to thank Centerwell Home Health and ACG Hospice for their compassion and support.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Dorothy C. Bass. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Carolyn Manzella Bass; daughters Tonya Balducci, Kristi (David) Tomberlin, and Kellie (Greg) McDade; and his cherished grandchildren, JT and Harrison Balducci, Payton and Caroline Tomberlin, and Hunter McDade.
Services will be held on Thursday, October 2, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, beginning with visitation at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. Graveside services immediately following at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Highway 150.
