Joan Wilkerson Taylor, 80 years old, of Hoover, Alabama passed away on May 25th, 2025.
Joan was born in Elba, Alabama in 1945 to James Noah Wilkerson and Harro Hannah Smart. Joan graduated from Zion Chapel High School in 1963. Joan loved her career as a special needs teacher's aide. Working with these children brought her so much joy. The students loved Mrs. Taylor.
In 1968, Joan met the love of her life, Jack in Troy, Alabama. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married on September 26th, 1969. Joan and Jack were best friends and soul mates who were practically inseparable throughout their lives. She loved to travel, and they enjoyed several trips around the world.
Joan will always be remembered for her friendly personality, having fun, and mainly the love she had for her family. We will always remember her saying, "Smile, God loves you," and "Everything is going to be okay." Joan was a proud Christian who loved the Lord and showed it everyday and in everything she did. We were blessed to have the best wife, mother, and grandmother imaginable.
We will miss Joan every day, her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, James Noah Wilkerson and Harro Hannah Smart. Her sister, Jean Ross, Twin brother and sister, Jack Wilkerson and Sarah Wilkerson.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Jack Taylor, Daughter Jacquelyn Canter (Harry), and grandson Justin Canter (Keila).
A graveside service will be held on Thursday May 29th, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home and Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, Alabama 35244.
Weather permitting the graveside service will be held as planned, however if there were to be rain, the service would be held in the chapel.
