Joan Lean Ensor née Hudgins, a resident of Mobile, Alabama for the past 36 years, went to be with the Lord on March 1st, 2026.
She was born to William Scott Ensor, Sr., and Annie Lee Kilgore Ensor, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 34 years, James Perry "J.P." Hudgins, who passed away on January 8, 1988; her beloved son, Steven D. Hudgins; her granddaughter, Michelle Lynn Casey Curry; and her siblings Mary Ensor Thomas, William Scott Ensor, Jr., Geraldine Ensor Abbott, Vera Nell Ensor Lynn, Viva Lee Ensor Golden, Johnnie Lou Ensor Hill, Charlie Edward Ensor, Grady Scott Ensor, Hazel Ensor Thomas, and Azalee Ensor.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindi (Frank) Grillo of Mobile, Alabama; her daughter-in-law, Lynn Hudgins of Birmingham, Alabama; and her brother, Malcolm Hewitt Ensor, Sr., of McCalla, Alabama. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Trea (Kate) Kines of Oakland, California; Jonathan Kines of Arley, Alabama; Joshua (Emily) Kines of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; James (Demi) Grillo of Mobile, Alabama; Diana (Dwayne) McKenzie of Alabaster, Alabama; and Christopher (Mary) Hudgins of Birmingham, Alabama; along with 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Joan retired in 1990 after more than 16 years of service with BlueCross and BlueShield of Alabama in Birmingham. A devoted follower of Christ, she was a charter member of Metro Church of God in Birmingham and later a faithful member of Gracepointe Church of God in Mobile. In her earlier years, she and her family travelled regularly performing as a Gospel singing group, sharing their faith through music in many churches. She also cherished the opportunity to travel to Israel and enjoyed traveling, spending time with loved ones, walking, and cooking.
The family will welcome friends and visitors from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Friday March 6, 2026, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm.
