Jo Ella Sink

July 31, 1933 — February 18, 2026

Jo Ella Sink went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. She was born in Ansted, WV and was the daughter of the late Ralph Jennings Nuckols and Thelma Mildred Nuckols. She was a graduate of Berea College with a degree in Education. She married the late Jack Merritt Sink on June 11, 1955. She lived and taught elementary school in West Virginia, South Carolina, and Alabama. In 1973, she moved to Athens, GA, where she received her master's degree and worked as an administrator at the University of Georgia before retiring. In the summer of 2023, she moved to Birmingham, AL to be closer to family.


A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who lived for her family, she is survived by: three sons Ralph Merritt Sink of Apex, NC, Scott Garret Sink of Birmingham, AL, and Dwayne Alan Sink of Apison, TN; four grandchildren Christina Marie Smith of Holly Springs, NC, Laura Michelle Sink of Apex, NC, Brittany Sink Chitwood of Atlanta, GA, and Taylor Ryan Sink of Atlanta, GA; three great-grandchildren Ian Thomas Smith, Wesley Merritt Smith, and Lydia Isabell Smith of Holly Springs, NC; brother-in-law Jack Linward Willis of Palmetto, FL; sister-in-law Patricia Cale Sink of Clemson, SC; two daughters-in-law Anne Tyler Sink of Apex, NC, and Linda Gill Sink of Birmingham, AL; two grandsons-in-law Tyler O'Neil Smith of Holly Springs, NC and Paul Efstration Chitwood of Atlanta, GA; and one granddaughter-in-law Anna Michelle Sink of Atlanta, GA.


Jo was a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church in Athens, GA for 50 years. Jo loved the Lord and was a member of United Methodist Women's group, Adult Sunday School classes and Bible Study groups. She loved to read, work puzzles, and cheer on the Georgia Bulldogs.


There will be a celebration of life service in Ansted, WV. Details will be determined at a later date.
