Janis Elizabeth Lucas, 87, passed away peacefully February 24, 2026. Born November 1, 1938, in Alexander City to Alonzo and Mittie Williams Brock, Janis lived a life defined by faith, service, and deep love for her family.

Janis proudly served her country in the United States Air Force before dedicating 30 years of service to Brookwood Hospital as a Nurse Anesthetist. A long-standing member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Janis’s faith was demonstrated by the love she poured into her family and community. Her devotion to the Lord will be revered even in her passing.

She had a love for travel, but also treasured the quieter moments. She delighted in watching the birds and spending unhurried time talking and laughing with her family. Her home was always open—a place where everyone was welcome, conversations were plentiful, and love was abundantly shared.

She was preceded in death by siblings Betty Jones Whitehead (Mack), Melba Sue Champion (Jack), Byron Hugh Brock, Maxine Hunter (Glynn), and adored husband Wilbur Joseph Lucas.

She is survived by siblings Lonnie Wyndle Brock (Linda), Syble Brock Warren (James), sister[1]in-law Betty Brock, children Mark Lucas and Brian Lucas (Andrea) as well as Wilbur Lucas III and David Lucas, grandchildren Hayes Lucas (Jenna), Anna Kate Lucas, Sarah Lucas, Jacob Lucas, Wil Lucas, and Jessica Higginbotham (John) alongside many great-grands, nieces, and nephews.

Janis will be remembered always for her warmth, strength, and quiet grace. She will be deeply missed
