James Cleveland Powell

October 30, 1950 — May 29, 2026

James (Jimmy) Cleveland Powell, age 75, of Alabaster, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 30, 1950, Jimmy lived a life defined by devotion to the people he loved. He never missed an opportunity to talk about his family. His children and grandchildren were the pride of his life, and everyone who knew him knew it. He carried small photographs of his children in his wallet and would gladly pull them out wherever he was to show others. He was convinced he had the most beautiful daughters in the world, and no one could have persuaded him otherwise. His son was never simply called by name—it was always "my boy." Known lovingly as "Pop Pop" to his grandchildren, Jimmy found great joy in celebrating their accomplishments and sharing stories about them with anyone willing to listen. He loved his family deeply and made sure they knew it. One of the ways he showed that love was through his daily phone calls. He faithfully checked in on the people he cared about, often calling for no reason other than to say hello, see how they were doing, and remind them that he loved them. Jimmy enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved watching The Andy Griffith Show, spending time tinkering in his garage, and putting his mark on everything he owned—quite literally, as he famously wrote his name in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS on nearly everything. Though his family never quite understood why, it became one of the many endearing things that made him uniquely Jimmy. He is survived by his devoted wife, Teresa Powell, whose faithful and tireless care carried him through his final days with dignity, comfort, and love. Their marriage was a testament to commitment, and her unwavering devotion to him will forever be remembered by all who witnessed it. Jimmy is also survived by his children: Jimmy Powell; Angel Tumlin (Heath); Kristen Williamson (Chris); and Katie Wallace (Dustin). He is survived by his siblings Lynn Evans and Judy Cleveland (Michael), along with his beloved grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland Thomas Powell and Pauline Griffin Powell, and by his siblings Jerry Powell, Benny Powell, Pat Reeves, and Mary Catherine Powell. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that the legacy Jimmy leaves behind is one of steadfast love and devotion to family. He taught us the importance of staying connected, celebrating one another, and never leaving important words unsaid. His family will forever miss hearing his voice on the other end of the phone, but they will carry his love with them always. A life rooted in family leaves an impact that time cannot erase. Jimmy Cleveland Powell was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
