James S. Ketchersid, age 84, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gaile R. Ketchersid; daughters Melissa Ketchersid McCullough (William) and Cynthia Ketchersid Byzek (Stephen); grandchildren Colleen McCullough and Andy McCullough; brother David Ketchersid (Mary); and sister Carol Ketchersid Doucette (Arthur). He is preceded in death by his sister Nancy Ketchersid Howard, and his parents.
Born on December 29, 1940, in Pine Mountain, Georgia to Rev. Burrell and Geneva Ketchersid, James lived a full and meaningful life devoted to his family, faith, and many passions. Rev. Burrell’s dedication as a Methodist pastor deeply influenced James’s life.
James attended University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he met his wife, Gaile. He graduated with a Master's in Business, and built a successful career in banking, eventually retiring from Regions Bank.
James and his wife Gaile made Hoover their home for the past 40 years, where in June of this year they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary – a testament to a lifetime of love and partnership. While living here, James found great joy in model railroading, antique cars, and collecting stamps and coins. He and Gaile were longtime members of Bluff Park United Methodist Church, where they formed many cherished friendships and served faithfully.
A memorial service to honor James’s life will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 2pm at Bluff Park UMC, with visitation beginning at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Bluff Park UMC's Scholarship fund in James's memory.
