James Robert Hooten, known to friends and family as Jim or Jim Bob, was born in Birmingham, Alabama on July 3, 1987. Jim passed away unexpectedly on March 26, 2026 while on vacation with his family after suffering a catastrophic stroke. Jim was a devoted husband, doting father, beloved son, and cherished friend. Jim lived a life defined by love, kindness, and perseverance.
Jim worked as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the Birmingham area for over a decade. He brought a sense of calm and good humor to the operating room and was genuinely beloved by all who had the pleasure of working with him.
Jim lived a robust life and loved to travel, eat good food, listen to good music, and be around good people. He adored his family and truly found his calling in his role as a father. A proud graduate of the University of Alabama, Jim reveled in cheering on his college team in every sport, especially football. Roll tide.
Jim is survived by his wife Taylor Hooten, daughter Magnolia Hooten, unborn son Hank Hooten, father Robert Chalmers Hooten, step-mother Darlene Hyche Hooten, mother Jane Davis Hooten, step-brother Bryan Pope, step-sister Stephanie Allums, as well as 7 nieces and nephews whom he adored.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, April 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Currie Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, Alabama 35244. Family will receive friends following the service.
Jim’s life was a gift to all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
