Idus Copeland, Jr., age 90 of Pelham, Alabama passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Idus was born on December 6, 1935, in Oneonta, Alabama and grew up in Shannon, Alabama. He retired as the owner of Shades Valley 76 service station in Homewood, Alabama in 2002.
Idus loved spending time with family, especially his beloved wife of 67 years, Martha and their children. Many years were spent at the lake playing in the water, fishing, boating, hosting a fish fry, a barbeque, any gathering of family and friends made him happy. He enjoyed camping, hunting, cutting his grass and maintaining his yard. He also loved spending time with his pups Roxie, Sophie and Chi Chi. You could always find him talking with friends and neighbors and he had a special place in his heart for all children.
Idus was a Mason and he loved serving and helping others. He truly enjoyed talking to people. He missed the service station so much that he went to work for Sam's club. You could find him at the gas pumps, offering assistance and telling stories. He also had a love for growing his own vegetables and fruit trees. He and Martha both enjoyed cooking, square dancing, bird watching, puzzling, trips to the beach with the family, attending church and spending time in fellowship.
He is survived by his sons Jimmy Wade Copeland (Marie), Richard Edwin (Eddie) Copeland, Henry Talley Copeland (Katherine), his pup Chi Chi, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Martha Jane Hamilton Copeland, his daughter, Vickie Lynn Davis, his parents, Idus and Mary Emma Copeland, his brothers Bobby Allen Copeland, Sr. and James Edward Copeland (Joyce Jean).
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at 11:00 am at Currie Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, Alabama with Brother Warren Ford officiating. The burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens South in Hoover, Alabama. The family will receive guests at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Tuesday, beginning at 10:00 am.
