Henry Usry Burnett age, 87, passed from this life peacefully, Sunday, November 30, 2025. He was born December 31, 1937, in Birmingham, AL at what was then known as West End Baptist Hospital. Henry married his wife, Cindy, May 25, 1991, and experienced a happy union of 34 years. He was a member of the Hoover church of Christ; loved to listen to the acapella singing.
He had three biological children: Daniel Gilbert, Michael Alan and Susan Caroline; one step daughter, Jamie. From his biological children he has three grandsons, one granddaughter, 2 great grandsons, and 2 great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Henry Issac Burnett (Jefferson County) Alabama and Queen Lucille Chesser Burnett (Bibb County) Alabama.
He attended Fairview Grammar School and what was formerly known as West End High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960; schooled in Airborne Radio/Radar and Microwave Radio Relay. Worked in Huntsville, Alabama, from 1960 to 1971 For NASA Contractors (Spaco & Chrysler) as electrical/electronic fabricator and electrical engineer. He received his Engineering Degree from University of Alabama-Huntsville in 1971.
He worked two years for the City of Birmingham as a Traffic Systems Engineer. In 1973 he was employed by Jefferson County Department of Health and retired in year 2000 as their Principal Air Pollution Control Engineer.
Being a UAH Graduate, he was an Alabama Crimson Tide “superfan” and enjoyed the Southeastern Conference comprehensive coverage of competitive sports, especially football. He enjoyed all time classic movies with King Kong being his favorite from childhood. He enjoyed Hoover’s YAH Game Nite/fellowship activities especially playing Rook; usually consisted of playing 2 games and then 1 final game as he referred to as “the championship game.”
Favorite Song Selections: Amazing Grace; Farther Along; Victory in Jesus; and It Is Well with My Soul.
Favorite Bible Verse: Romans 8:28 (NIV) “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 5, 2025, at Hoover church of Christ (Alabama)
Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and the memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m.
A committal service will be the family’s private time held at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home-John Hawkins Parkway/Hoover, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Henry may be made to Childhaven in Cullman, Alabama.
