Harry McAlister Canter, 59, of Hoover, Alabama passed away peacefully on January 27th, 2026, while surrounded by family.
Harry was born on December 5, 1966, to Clarence and Catherine Canter. He attended W.A. Berry High School, and later married Jackie Taylor on June 11, 1995. Their son Justin was born on October 5, 1999. He went on to own his lawn care business, H&J Lawn Care. He took great pride in his work and is known for his attention to details. Harry was always willing to lend a helping hand and share advice to anyone who asked.
Growing up, he enjoyed playing many sports, football, baseball, basketball, track, and rock climbing on "the bluffs." He excelled in all these sports. As he got older, he developed a passion for golf. He always loved Alabama football, going to the games, tailgating, and football gatherings with friends. Harry got great joy from teaching Justin about football and baseball and being a little league baseball coach. He had an uncanny ability of remembering scores, plays, players, and statistics from many years past for so many sports. He loved spending time with family, playing golf with friends, talking and laughing with his brother, going to the beach, and going on many trips to different places in the Caribbean. He cherished his role as a husband and father. He was faithful in his love for our Lord and Savior. Father Paul came to visit him on Tuesday, and it was as though Harry was waiting on him. He prayed for him and blessed him then at the exact time the blessing was completed, Jesus took Harry home. It was such a surreal and peaceful moment.
Harry is survived by his wife of 30 years; Jackie Canter, his son; Justin (Keila) Canter, his twin brother John (Mary) Canter, and his father-in-law; Jack Taylor. He was preceded in death by his father; Clarence Canter, his mother; Catherine Alexiou Canter, and mother-in-law; Joan Taylor.
Harry's legacy of hard work, treasuring friendships, living each day to the fullest, laughter, his infectious personality, and being "the life of the party," will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
May his memory be eternal.
